Various works have been carried out in the Julianakanaal in the past period to improve the waterway and make it future-proof.
The canal has been widened in several places to allow shipping traffic to flow more smoothly and to accommodate larger ships. In addition, banks have been reinforced and the water barrier has been adapted on some sections to be better able to withstand high water levels. Work has also been done to improve the ecological value of the canal, including the construction of nature-friendly banks and fish passages.
